What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a complete and balanced health care system. It looks at the person as a whole and not just at the area of poor health. Good health is about balance on all levels. Fertility, pregnancy, post-natal care, stress and fatigue are a few areas in which acupuncture excels
Our good health is a complex and subtle integration of our physical strength, mental clarity, emotional well being and core feelings of security and any number of factors both internal and external can upset that balance. In restoring good health and balance Acupuncture addresses all of these areas.
How does it work?
Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the skin at predetermined points to affect the internal levels of energy. It may be deficient, excessive or stagnant and therefore not flowing in the most efficient manner. When energy, called Qi, in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is not in balance then we see symptoms, at all levels. Some symptoms are obvious, such as those affecting the physical, others less so, such as those that affect the emotional and mental.
What happens in a treatment session?
An acupuncture session lasts around 45 mins, and the needles are usually in for around 15 mins. The rest of the time is taken up with diagnosis. I diagnose by asking lots of questions about all areas of your life both past and present. This is a very collaborative process which is gentle, organic and thought provoking. Working in this way helps to build up a comprehensive picture so that we can uncover the underlying patterns. Diagnosis can be like an excavation, as, once we deal with what is on the surface, what is underneath is freed to come to the surface. In this way we work with not only current issues but also the deeper issues underlying them, with the idea that once the root has been tackled the symptoms will not re occur.
Can acupuncture help with fertility?
Acupuncture can play a big part in fertility in a number of ways: It can be used in pre conception to help prepare the body to be as strong and healthy as possible, as healthy parents make healthy babies. It can be used to help regulate periods and any symptoms around our cycles. It is used more and more often with woman having assisted fertility treatment as it can minimise side effects of the drugs taken as well as working on the physiology of the woman including increased implantation rates and increased blood flow. All of which have been documented in several different studies. It is important to know that we don’t just treat the physical part of the body concerning fertility, we treat the whole person.

- You say its your stomach I know its your heart
- There is never just one symptom

- Emotions not express makes us ill
- We can be so tired that we can’t switch off
- Its quite hard to anchor the mind
- To relax dosn’t mean just not to be moving physical it means that our head stops thinking, we breath out, and we an immerse ourselves in something 100% , body mind and self….thats really hard
- Acupuncture really can bring us back to ourselves
- You don’t have to believe in it for it to work
- Acupuncture is so much more than a cure for backache
- When we have emotional equilibrium we feel in control of every aspect of our lives
